The "Raven's Claw" from Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast

The Raven's Claw was the fast light courier ship of the mercenary team Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors following the destruction of their first ship, the Moldy Crow. Upon completing their mission to the Valley of the Jedi, the New Republic granted them enough compensation that they were able to purchase the new modified Corellian Engineering Corporation CRF-156T Fast Courier vessel, a descendent of the same model as the original Moldy Crow. With the acquisition of the Raven's Claw, Jan and Kyle were able to continue their battles against the Imperial Remnant.

In addition to a sleeker design and larger weapons armament, the ship is one of the fastest in the galaxy, rivaling Han Solo's Falcon in pure sublight speed and zipping through hyperspace at a considerable clip. The ship boasts a pair of military-grade proton torpedo launchers, as well as a set of lasers that would cause any attacker to flinch. Additionally, Mon Mothma personally authorized the placement of a Holonet transceiver on the vessel in order to more quickly communicate with her most trusted freelance mercenaries.

Jan Ors was the pilot, who was said to be a better pilot than Kyle. It was Jan's job, when she was not following mission objectives with Katarn, to ensure that he could be pulled out as quickly as possible should the operation turn desperate. This tactic almost cost Jan Ors her life, when Desann and Tavion Axmis found and abducted her, compelling Katarn to take up his abandoned Force powers and return to the Valley of the Jedi on Ruusan.

After Kyle Katarn started his search for Desann, Master Skywalker promised to take care of the Raven's Claw during his search. After Desann's death on Yavin 4, Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors continued to fly this ship. During the time of the Disciples of Ragnos, Jaden Korr was the co-pilot of the Raven's Claw with Kyle Katarn. together, they flew to Corellia, Nar Kreeta, Vjun, Byss, Taspir III, and possibly Korriban.

The "Raven's Claw" is named after the developers of the two games Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, Raven Software and is also thought of as a continuation of Kyle's theme of avian names for his ships, such as the Moldy Crow.

Kyle Katarn's "Moldy Crow" v3

The Moldy Crow was produced approximately a decade after the last Old Republic Battle of Coruscant as part of the Corellian Engineering Corporation's Hawk series of transports. One of the ship's earliest owners was the smuggler Roark Garnet, who, after inheriting the Dorion Discus from his dead gunslinging sister Neena, used it as payment for debts incurred to Grappa the Hutt. Filched from Grappa by Dace Bonearm and IG-72, the Moldy Crow was subsequently dumped on the planet Teth after the two hunters used it as a decoy to capture Rebel commander Winfrid Dagore and claim the Imperial bounty on her. The Crow then fell into the hands of Lieutenant Palob Godalhi, who gave up the beat-up freighter to the Rebel dreadnaught New Hope. There it was refitted and later requisitioned by Kyle Katarn, though Jan Ors more frequently piloted the ship. The Crow was demolished during Kyle and Jan's mission to the Valley of the Jedi, and eventually replaced by the ship Raven's Claw.

The Moldy Crow was the personal starship of mercenary-turned-Jedi Kyle Katarn and his partner Jan Ors. After years of faithful service, the Crow was destroyed when Kyle accidentally crashed it into the Valley of the Jedi in Jedi Knight. After this point it was replaced by its successor, the Raven's Claw. The Crow first appeared in the game Dark Forces.

The Crow is a modified Corellian Engineering Corporation HWK-290 Hawk class light freighter. It has a quartet of fast engines, strong shields and armor, and a pair of laser cannons. What it has in armor and armament is balanced by its poor cargo space, which can only hold 30 metric tons of cargo, and helped to make this ship slightly less popular than CEC's YT-series freighters, specifically the YT-1300. This doesn't stop smugglers and bounty hunters from using it, as it is fast and maneuverable for a freighter, and has enough structure to mount even heavier weapons, shields, and armor.

Little was known about the Moldy Crow until the release of The Dark Forces Saga by Wizards of the Coast in 2005. According to this source, the Moldy Crow was a Corellian Engineering Corporation HWK-290 light freighter and was built approximately nine years before the Battle of Yavin. The size of the Moldy Crow implies a fighter in-game, however, the actual internal space of the Crow is unknown.
