A/SF 02E Extended B-Wing/E (Dagger Squadron)

While appearing almost identical to its predecessor, the B-Wing/E had a command cabin extended by 3 meters to add space for a gunnery station directly behind the pilot seat. The addition of a gunner drastically increased the kill statistics for this fighter by freeing the pilot to focus solely on flying the craft without dividing his attention between piloting and gunnery.

The B-Wing/E was faster and more durable, but sacrificed maneuverability allowed by the standard B-Wing. Increased shielding, speed, and its complement of weapons made this fighter a genuine threat to Imperial ships.

The B-Wing/E was designed at Shantipole Research Station, a Verpine facility deep in the Roche asteroid field. Rebel operatives foiled an attempt by Imperial spies to steal the design specs for the craft, and the craft was brought to production by Slayn & Korpil.

Admiral Gial Ackbar made use of a specially modified B-Wing/E as his personal military shuttle. His craft, dubbed the B-Wing/E2, was made with a wider command cabin to accommodate a single passenger seated next to the pilot seat. While traveling with Princess Leia Organa on final approach to the planet Vortex, Ackbar crashed his B-Wing/E2 into the Cathedral of Winds, destroying the structure and killing over 350 native Vors in the process. It was later discovered Ackbar's fighter had been sabotaged by his chief mechanic Terpfen, an unwilling agent of Ambassador Furgan of Carida.

Dagger Squadron
The B-Wing/E is in the colors of Dagger Squadron, Dagger Squadron was a starfighter squadron that served with the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. The first unit to be equipped with the then-experimental B-Wing starfighters, they were activated and sent into combat by Admiral Gial Ackbar in a last-ditch effort to save a unit of Rebels that had become trapped behind Imperial lines.

In the story "Small Victories" from the Star Wars: Rebellion comic series, Rebel Alliance B-Wing starfighters take on an Imperial fleet while trying to rescue Luke, Leia and the crew of the Rebel One from an Imperial refueling station. Rebel officer Lieutenant Pollard leads the fledgling Dagger Squadron on their very first mission that's full of daring and danger. B-Wings pack a powerful punch in battle; these heavy assault fighters/bombers are amred with cannons and torpedoes, and a rotating cockpit enables pilots to execute advanced attack maneuvers.

‘Elite’ TIE Interceptor

181st Imperial Fighter Wing ‘Elite’ TIE Interceptor

The 181st Imperial Fighter Wing was initially equipped with the T/F starfighters, the Empire's most common space superiority fighter. It was not until after the Battle of Hoth that the unit upgraded to the faster, more maneuverable, and better-armed T/I Interceptor, a more elite fighter for what was already known as an elite unit. It was with the interceptor that the 181st pioneered their signature marking, the red horizontal stripes along the interceptor's horizontally-aligned wings, and it was with the interceptor that the 181st stayed for another decade, becoming among the most expert pilots of the interceptor alive.

The 181st Imperial Fighter Wing was an elite TIE unit serving the Galactic Empire and its descendants. At its height under the Empire, it was a three-squadron unit known as the 181st Imperial Fighter Group and distinguished by the red bloodstripes that marked the wings of its TIE interceptors. Initially the 181st Imperial Fighter Wing of the Galactic Empire, it suffered from an abysmal reputation. Commanded by Colonel Evir Derricote, the 181st had lax discipline and low morale. It enjoyed a tremendous improvement with the arrival of Captain Soontir Fel in 0 BBY. Fel took command of the second squadron of the wing and quickly whipped it into shape with intense discipline and drilling.

When called to fight in the Second Battle of Ord Biniir, Fel's squadron significantly outperformed its Rebel opposition. It so happened that the battle occurred on the same day as the Imperial loss at the Battle of Yavin, and the success at Ord Biniir was propagandized heavily. Fel was promoted, and the unit was downsized to a group of three squadrons and completely reformed with an elite roster. While Derricote remained in command, Fel was the true force behind the unit's success as it became one of the Empire's premier fighter groups.

Fel took formal command in 3 ABY, when he was promoted to colonel and given the title of Baron of the Empire. Fel led the 181st for another two years before he was captured by the New Republic during the 181st's defeat at the Battle of Brentaal IV. Turr Phennir became the unit's commander, continuing to lead it through the turbulent times of the Empire's fall, becoming a general in the Imperial Remnant and finding the 181st a place there. The organization survived the changeover from the Remnant to the revived Galactic Empire, serving Fel's descendant Emperors, and eventually was reorganized as a wing once more.

Emperor's Royal Guard TIE Interceptor

Emperor's Royal Guard TIE Interceptor

The Emperor's Royal Guard TIE/IN starfighter was a specially modified version of the TIE/IN interceptor. These TIE Interceptors were flown only by Emperor Palpatine's Royal Guard.

These starfighters were commonly used to escort Emperor Palpatine's Lambda-class shuttle and its decoys during his travels. Displaying the distinctive crimson red color of the Royal Guard, these deadly war machines struck fear into any opposing fighters. Royal Guard fighter wings were thought to even rival the skills of elite pilots from the 181st Imperial Fighter Wing and Rogue Squadron. These fighters were said to have been commissioned by Palpatine himself.

Under the supervision of Darth Vader, Imperial workers spent many long hours modifying TIE Interceptor fighters, including installing additional flaps on the curves of the wings. Unlike the original TIE Interceptor, the Royal Guard TIE Interceptor was equipped with a built-in hyperdrive and shield generator, while also having blazing speeds and fantastic maneuverability that exceeded that of its fleet counterpart. On very rare occasions, these fighters found places outside of the Royal Guard, and were thus subject to even further modification, including more devastating weapons, more advanced shielding technologies, and, in rare cases, ordnance launchers. By contrast, regular Interceptors with similar added equipment, such as shield projectors, warhead launchers, and hyperdrives (for instance that of Apwar Trigit) suffered reduced speed and maneuverability.

TIE Interdictor

The next enhanced TIE Bomber model, after the TIE Heavy Bomber, became the T/INT. This enhanced bomber has the same basic features but nearly four times the firepower of the TIE Bomber. The propulsion engine is also in this model upgraded to compensate for the added mass, thereby giving it the speed of the standard TIE Bomber. This is one of the most powerful fighters in the Imperial arsenal. Carrying 12 warhead launchers with a total of 48 Missiles and 16 Torpedoes, 16 Proximity Mines or 72 Free falling Thermal Detonators.

Still the TIE Interdictor is a vulnerable target and most be escorted into battle by a minimum of 4 TIE Fighters or Interceptors. To cut down production prize Naval R&D has chosen not to equip the TIE Interdictor with a shield generator. But in battles it has shown that the heavy bomber has been a target of intensive aggression. The enemies fear the TIE Interdictor to such an extent that they concentrate much of their firepower towards it, in the hope of bringing it down before it can launch its deadly warheads. Mostly this diversion of fire is only in the Empires favor, as the other involved strike craft gets much easier attack runs with minimal resistance. But the TIE Interdictor is because of this not a favored craft among bomber pilots. Many would rather prefer to battle in a standard TIE Bomber. But it has not yet been a problem to recruit TIE Interdictor pilots as the model is not produced in large quantities and is only deployed in "special" operations with high priority.

In the years between the Imperial I and Imperial II Death Stars, the TIE Interdictor was frequently used by the forces of Lord Darth Vader, in his quest to bring down the Rebel forces. But since that time and after the development of the TIE Scimitar Assault Bomber, the TIE Interdictor has nearly gone out of production. Nevertheless, few fleets still order and conduct operations with TIE Interdictors.

The Galactic Empire's TIE Interdictor bomber had wings and a command module which were nearly identical to those found on a TIE Bomber. However, the command module was flanked on both sides by a pair of ordnance pods, for a total of four. They can also include enhanced sensors.

The ship was piloted by one individual, and was equipped with shields. The armor was stronger than other TIE models, but the craft did not include a hyperdrive. The TIE Interdictor was armed with linked laser cannons and ordnance pods, able to carry concussion missiles or proton torpedoes, and twin linked versions of the TIE Bomber's proton bomb bays. Their ordnance can also be expanded to include plasma torpedoes, flechette torpedoes, advanced homing missiles, cluster mines, and ion bombs.

The TIE Interdictor was used by the Empire during the Galactic Civil War. The Interdictor was developed as an advanced TIE model following the Battle of Yavin. The craft was to be used in assault missions where Star Destroyers could not venture, and earned an effective reputation as they hunted Rebel bases. Redline used a TIE Interdictor at least once, and the Interdictor was also used for the Cutlass Squadron.

Three of them attacked the Rebel's Massassi Station during the evacuation of Yavin, although they were destroyed by concussive charges placed by General Jan Dodonna.

During the attack on Cloud City in 3 ABY, eight bombers were sent in as support units to occupy the city.

Several months later, at least one TIE Interdictor was still present along with other Imperial forces at a Kessel Detention Center. The Detention Centers were subsequently liberated by Wookiee forces.

The TIE Interdictors continued to see use after at least 5.5 ABY, with the name "TIE Punisher", and included weaponry such as Flechette torpedoes.

TIE Shuttle

The TIE Shuttle was a short-range personal priority shuttle manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems as part of the TIE Series. Like the similar T/BR boarding shuttle, the T/SH was one of the more successful variant models of Sienar's basic TIE Bomber design. The T/SH afforded room for up to four individuals as well as additional cargo in its well-appointed port-side passenger pod. Measuring 7.8 meters long and not designed for combat, the T/SH was equipped with a single laser cannon and a shield generator but lacked other advances. The Galactic Empire typically used the T/SH to quickly ferry command-level officers between starships and other installations, though the shuttle was an unpopular mode of transportation for those using it, as they preferred the luxury of the larger Lambda-class shuttle.

The Imperial Navy made extensive use of the T/SH during the Hoth campaign of 3 ABY, employing the shuttle as a substitute for standard comm traffic between the Star Destroyers of Darth Vader's Imperial Death Squadron, which would have interfered with the mission's vital sensor scans and probe droid transmissions. Captain Lorth Needa of the Imperial Star Destroyer Avenger made his final space voyage aboard a T/SH before suffering execution at Vader's hands for failing to capture the Rebel starship Millennium Falcon in the Hoth asteroid field.
